Switching up your beauty routine to incorporate clean products can have a significant impact on both your health and the environment. Clean beauty products are free from harmful chemicals such as parabens, sulfates, and phthalates that can cause skin irritation and disrupt your hormones. By opting for clean beauty, you are not only protecting your health but also reducing the carbon footprint.
If you're considering switching to clean personal care products that are quality and produce results you want to see, Beautycounter might be a good place to start. Beautycounter is a company that focuses on creating safe and non-toxic personal care products. They avoid using 2,8000 harmful ingredients commonly found in traditional beauty products, such as parabens, phthalates and fragrance. Additionally, Beautycounter is committed to transparency, meaning they disclose all of their ingredients and make sure that they are sourced responsibly. By switching to Beautycounter you can vastly reduce your repeated exposure to harmful chemicals.
Beautycounter recently celebrated their 10th anniversary. The company has banned 2,800 ingredients and assisted in passing 11 laws to regulate the beauty industry for our health. They are Leaping Bunny certified and are a certified B-corp. Beautycounter has 241 EWG Verified products which have the highest level of safety and they test 100% of their ingredients. The company also uses 57% sustainable packaging and has reduced their greenhouse gas emissions by 86%. Beautycounter is the first and only company to advocate for more strict regulations on a federal level.
When transitioning to a clean beauty routine, it's essential to do your research and read product labels carefully. Look for products that are free from synthetic fragrances, artificial colors, and other toxic ingredients. No need to dispose of all your belongings and spend a fortune on replacing them with new and clean products at the moment. You can begin by swapping out your skincare and makeup products with clean alternatives and gradually replace your other beauty products over time, as even small changes can have a big impact on overall health. With a little effort and patience, you can transform your beauty routine into a clean and healthy one.
My personal experience with Beautycounter:
As a mom of two in my thirties, I never had a skincare or makeup routine until I realized these fine lines and under eye bags weren't going anywhere on their own. There was no way I could commit to a 12-step process of serums and peels and who-knows-what. I finally reached out to Shae for help, but I needed something practical because I could barely find the energy to wash my face before bed. Shae is a Beautycounter consultant, based in Gardner. (Although I actually met her through a mutual friend, it turns out she and my husband actually went to middle and high school together!)
Shae was amazing and suggested a simple skincare regimen to get me started. If you're only starting with two products, I highly recommend the Counter Match Adaptive Moisturizer and the Counter+ Lotus Glow Cleansing Balm - which are the exact two I started with. Using the Beauty Balm as both a cleanser and make up remover, I use that before bed and then apply the Adaptive Moisturizer so it can work its magic overnight.
My husband also uses the moisturizer daily, so we keep two bottles on our bathroom vanity. In the morning, he applies a half pump of moisturizer and the Daily Sheer Defense with SPF. As a little summer "pick me up", at night right now I alternate between using the Beauty Balm followed by the Countertime Tripeptide Radiance Serum, or I'll use the Counter Match Foaming Cleanser to wash my face with the Overnight Resurfacing Peel after.
My next "adventure" into clean products is getting away from my current deodorant and antiperspirant. I am in the process of doing an "armpit detox" and making the switch to Beautycounter's Clean Deo. Their refillable deodorant is aluminum-free and helps to neutralize odor and absorb sweat. You saw the part about it being refillable right? I love the concept - by using this product we are also reducing our carbon footprint and creating less waste!
If you're in the market for new skincare or makeup, consider reaching out to Shae! I have no doubt that she will be a very helpful resource. She is very knowledgeable about Beautycounter's products and can offer advice and guidance on selecting the best products for your needs. Shae gradually started swapping out skincare and household products for cleaner alternatives over the past 3.5 years. The motivation behind this choice is to prioritize the health of herself and her family.
A note from Shae, local Beautycounter consultant:
In 2018, my friend Katie introduced me to Beautycounter. Her passion for health and safety, coupled with my trust in her, convinced me to try their products. Now, almost 5 years later, I use only Beautycounter for my skincare and have made other swaps for cleaner items in our home. Together with Katie and a large team, we are leading a movement for clean beauty and advocating for safer beauty laws and products accessible to everyone.
In 2022, I provided over $21,000 of safer, cleaner, and better products to my customers. Prioritizing your health is crucial, and small changes can lead to big impact. Making decisions towards a healthier lifestyle and safer routines is a significant step in the right direction. Our brand and products, as well as our mission, are something I love! I will continue to educate, highlight products, offer sales, and do giveaways throughout the year. Be sure to contact me directly or follow me on Instagram for more information!
