2023 Summer Reading Programs for Children, Tweens & Teens

The Importance of Summer Reading for Students

By Brittany Marsh, Publisher of Macaroni KID Gardner-Spring Hill-Paola May 29, 2023

To prevent students from falling behind their peers, summer reading is essential. Without consistent reading, students may not retain the knowledge and skills learned in the previous school year. It is crucial for both parents and teachers to encourage children to make time for reading during the summer break. Even though reading may not be at the forefront of a child's mind during summer vacation, it is important to prioritize it. Not only does it help them retain information from the previous year, but it also assists in the development of critical thinking skills, which are necessary for future academic success.
